Humble Mud
On day 11 we woke up, ate some breakfast, and hopped on the bus for a long day of work. Today we got down and dirty. We spent the day with HEART and the WEEP women. We got the opportunity to build two homes for the women and her children. Hailey and I helped build a home for Evelyn and the others helped build an home for Jeria. We were all given rubber boots and gloves but we ended up throwing off our gloves and working barefoot. Toby painted our faces with mud while the rest of us did the real work. The Kenyan locals were much better at piling the mud on the walls but regardless of our incompetence they were honored that “Wzungus” were helping build a home for them. We completed all the walls and got to sit down for lunch prepared by the WEEP women. But before we ate, the women cleaned our muddy feet. This was one of the most humbling experiences. The women cleaning my feet called me her daughter. These women are truly incredible and Godly humans. In all their hardships they continue to be faithful to the Lord and it is extremely inspiring. Lunch was avocados, rice, potatoes, beef, and chicken. After the feast we walked down to the stream to soak our feet and hair in the cold water. Now we are at the HEART compound in Kisii taking some hot (Thank you God) showers and writing this blog as it is the only place we have wifi. Tonight we will have dinner and finish the night with a debrief. We will come back with another update when we arrive at the safari. Hailey says “hello mom".
