¡Atitlán!
Hello everyone! This is Kaylin Worthington, one of the female leaders for the second half of the trip! How exciting to be here!
When I arrived with the new leaders (Renee, Josiah, and Carlos), we were so welcomed by the rest of the team, everyone hugging each other, even people they didn't know and introduced themselves. I knew everyone by the second day--your kids are amazing! They set off fireworks for us, and we celebrated Josiah's birthday with cake!
We had one night in Antigua, and then headed up to Atitlán. We got a beautiful group picture overlooking the ocean (which I am currently unable to upload, but will have for you in the team slideshow when we get back!) I was told that the bus ride would be anywhere between 3 and 7 hours--thankfully, it was the former. From there the kids got a good break, rebooting their spiritual/emotional tanks by swimming in the pool, playing pool, jumping on the trampoline, playing soccer, snacking, napping, and then calling parents. It was awesome to see the community building as students spoke with the Guatemalans and each other in Spanish. Monday was much of the same freedom, but in the morning we went on a beautiful 45 minute boat ride to shop in a Mayan tourist city. It was certainly a party on that boat!
We heard some of the leader's testimonies, and I have to say that I am super-wowed (something we say a lot here) by the maturity of all the students on this trip. After a testimony was told, they asked good follow-up questions regarding how they could learn from those leaders in certain aspects of their lives, and encouraged them by expressing their gratitude. After that, they surrounded them in prayer. WOW. I was moved to tears.
Speaking of tears....some crazy yet awesome Holy Spirit stuff also happened last night. Prepare yourselves for the next blog!
Hasta pronto,
Kaylin
