Hello Alaska!

Hi everyone,

Mia and Cailey here coming at you live from the AK. After a very long day full of travel we finally arrived to our house in Anchorage. Today began with an early morning at the Denver airport and as we waved goodbye to our families we were all very excited and anxious for the long journey ahead. After a five hour plane ride full of bonding, laughs, and some irritated plane passengers we got off the plane and snapped a quick picture with the iconic moose statue.

With hungry bellies we hopped in the vans and booked it to Red Robin (yum). Most of us got burgers and freckled lemonades and we pretended it was Colin’s birthday so that he could get free ice cream. Once we were full and had regained our energy we headed toward our house and unpacked. After a quick wardrobe change we took a couple vans North to Palmer and hiked the Butte. This was a one mile hike (all up hill) and it ended with a staircase of over 500 stairs in order to reach the top. It took a lot of mosquito swatting skills and resistance to extreme sweating in order to climb to the top. The view at the peak was well worth the climb and absolutely breathtaking. We took countless pictures and continued to be confused over why there was no sunset. Once the cameras were put away we settled down on a rock platform that overlooked the mountain tops. During this time, we discussed the importance of having a Christ-like heart and what it means to strive to be more like Jesus in our actions. This was an eye opening experience and an excellent start for what is to come this week. We all could agree that after our hike our mindsets were in the right place to advance into our service for the rest of week. When we reached the bottom of the hike it was about 9:30 in Alaska and we were all very tired, but not tired enough to forget about going to Walmart to get snacks. At Walmart everyone scattered towards the chips, candy, and whatever else we shouldn’t be eating (sorry mom). After buying our snacks and loading up on fruit roll ups and hot Cheetos we headed back to the house to shower and get ready for bed. Looking back on today, many new friendships started to take form, our personal journeys of spiritual growth began, and we are all ready for all the ways God will challenge in the coming days. Please be praying for our health and safety as well as the trials that are ahead. We love and miss you all very much. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s update.
