Perspective and Preparation

We successfully finished our seven hour drive to the trekking village where we will begin our journey straight up tomorrow morning. The first photo in this post is of Langtang 1 and 2 (at 23k and 24k ft high). Below is the "hill" we will climb tomorrow.

Thoughts on yesterday by Caleb Rotello...

After an American breakfast of pancakes, we got into a van and travelled into our first sight of the day, the Hindu temple Pashupati. Approaching the temples was a large market, full of people trying to sell various trinkets, each covered in pagan engravings. At the gate to the temple compound, there were several beggars, many exposing horrible wounds to try and sell their suffering to fetch a higher price from tourists. The inside of the temple compound was full of pigeons, cows, goats, dogs, and monkeys. There were several shrines to the different anatomy of Shiva, a Hindu god. We proceeded to pray over the whole site. We were able to approach the gate of the actual Temple of Pashupati and glimpse inside, but could not go in. There was a golden calf, facing away from the gate, on the inside, that caused a dark, hopeless feeling just to look at. We then walked around to the back of the temple compound to a river. By the river were shrines, at which human sacrifices were once performed. On one side of the river sat Hindu priests, offering blessings and palm readings for high sums of money. On the other, there were deceased human bodies being prepared for cremation and being cremated. This entire area had a feeling of hopelessness that was visible in the people there, and carried a supernatural darkness. This entire experience was unlike anything we experience in Western culture, an eye opener to the true evil that this world contains, and proof to the existence and power of Satan.
