Fitted with Readiness

Stand firm then... with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. - Ephesians 6:15

Preparation often seems the most tedious of any task, but in travel and life it can often be the most vital. Gathering to finish the last of the preparations, this team of 20 students and seven leaders readied themselves for their journey to Costa Rica. They spent several hours organizing, sorting, cleaning and packing their gear.  It is clear that the students on this team have an excellent work ethic as their speed and diligence showed throughout the afternoon of work. Hundreds of donations ranging from cleats and shoes to uniform kits and coaching gear will be distributed in Costa Rica when team arrives. Already we have been able to see God's attention to detail as the donations fit perfectly in the exact number of bags we had available.

After sharing a meal together parents began to arrive, and everyone came together for a time of commissioning. Coach Shultz and the Wrights shared their heart and passion for this trip, while each leader added their excitement for the week. Then Rapids' Chaplain Brad Kenney charged the team with readying their spirits for this time. He spoke about Ephesians 6 and the armor of God, reminding students that just as they would not think of playing a game or building a house without the proper footwear, they should approach this trip with their hearts and minds prepared in the right ways. This opportunity has been ordained by God since the beginning of time and with it comes both weightiness and freedom.

Parents then gathered together to pray over their students and the upcoming trip. They shared prayers for courage and strength, that each person would be given an extra measure to fulfill what God is calling them to do this week. Others prayed for safety and protection in a place that is outside of the comfort zone of many. Even still others prayed that God's kingdom would be built both in Costa Rica and here as the students return.

Friday morning we send our students to Costa Rica and pray that God would use them in big and small ways over the course of this trip!
