Serving in Denver

Hi families, this is Coach Coplen!

What a phenomenal day we had serving on the streets of Denver today. We started the day off breaking up into two groups and serving at a place called Silver Lining and at another place called Joy House. Silver Lining is a not yet opened transitional home for young people ages 18 to 25 coming out of addiction. The Joy House is a transitional home for women and children coming out of domestic abuse.

We returned to home base for lunch and did a training with one of the leaders at Open Door Ministries on how to do homeless outreach effectively.

After that we set out and spent the afternoon handing out water bottles, socks, hand and foot warmers, food and other means to the homeless people that we encountered. Each student had numerous opportunities to share life and to share a little bit of the gospel with the individuals they encountered. Many great conversations took place.

They all did a phenomenal job of speaking and sharing in confidence, in kindness and in faith. It was truly a blessing to watch them serve.

The kids came back very tired from the afternoon, but still got a nice run in at City Park. We shared dinner together and then walked to a local ice cream place. We capped off the evening with about an hour of worship and prayer together.

As a coach, I cannot remember a more impactful and special time together with this team.

God is good. God is faithful. He’s a God of second chances. He’s a God that has called each of us to be his hands and feet on this earth. Each student on this trip has truly taken that to heart.
