Safari Time

Jambo mates!

These past few days have been absolutely incredible and truly a once in a lifetime experience for all of us. On Saturday, we drove into the Masai Mara and were kindly greeted by the zebras and wildebeests. Very quick after, animals from elephants to lions and cheetahs were just before our eyes. We even got to see a lion attempt to attack a hyena and wildebeests, not being successful, but still extraordinary. Our first game drive was one for the books, and we were all very excited. We then went to our hotel and we checked into luxury tents. These were the nicest tents that any of us had ever seen. Shortly after, it was really refreshing to have a meal other than chapatti and rice. After a long day, we concluded with sharing some testimonies in a treehouse, truly bringing our group closer together.

Sunday morning, we woke up at 5:30 am, and we were out by 6:30 am, on our second game drive. The drive started off miraculous with a bunch of hippos emerging in a nearby river. Later, we saw a pride of lions all over a rock, which has to be one of the coolest things most of us will ever see. We also got to see a leopard, all laid out on a tree in the distance. Throughout the rest of the drive we saw a family of elephants, several giraffes, and so much more. It was extraordinary. We got back around 12:30 and it was nice to relax a bit. Then at about 4, we went on our 3rd game drive. The trend continued of seeing a family of lions just when they had finished their meal and were relaxing. After this, we saw a group of elephants all surrounding a baby. It was waving its trunk in the air and it was really funny. After this drive was over, we went back to the tents for a special event. Two of our team members, Beth Anne and Makayla, had made the decision to get baptized. It’s amazing to be in the presence of people confessing their love for God, especially in a place as beautiful as this. After the baptism and showers, we had the opportunity to gather around the fire and share a couple testimonies. It’s been so amazing to be vulnerable together and grow as a group.

The next morning, we were woken up by the hippos jumping into the water and blubbing. On our 4th game drive, we saw all 5 cheetahs, having been reunited over the time we were there. The first time we saw them, there were only 3 of them, so it was cool to see them reunited as a family. Towards the end of the drive, we also saw a bunch of baboons. The baby baboons would hold on to the mothers chest, and it was an incredible thing to see.

Overall, our experience at the safari was absolutely incredible. We had seen so much brokenness on this trip, but through that brokenness we saw so much joy and love for God as well. We just continued to see God’s beauty and expansion through this safari, and truly how all things are uniquely made in Him. It was such a beautiful experience. All of us are excited to see and reunite with all of you.

With much love,
Beth Anne, Shay, Lucas, and the Valor Team
