Intentional Time

It’s so neat to see the ways God reveals Himself when you spend intentional time with others. We’ve really grown to love one another through these Camino miles, to be open and willing. In that space, we’ve found freedom - to share from our most honest places and to seek out and speak scriptural truth. His presence is being made known in these relationships, His voice becoming familiar. We’re struggling through the process, but there’s a pervasive hope that comes when you do this kind of work.

We started our day beneath a pretty strange bridge in Bilbao, eating breakfast and celebrating Collyn on her birthday. A brief bus ride got us to today’s starting point and we set off in solitude, once again marveling at the beauty of the coast. There was a very real feeling of Community today that was present in the laughter and the conversations. We pushed ahead for four miles before stopping for a devotional in an abandoned and graffiti-laden bus stop at the top of an urban hill.

From there the groups split, with those willing to go another 13 miles forging ahead and those who needed rest for sore legs slowing down to eventually catch a bus in Castro Urdiales.

We spent more time traveling through towns today, walked through painted tunnels, and weaved away and back toward ocean views. Castro proved to be a beautiful coastal town and our stop at the church that sits above it was an awe-inspiring experience we were glad we made time for.

The motivation of Thursday’s day of rest provided enthusiastic energy for all of us - the group that finished the full 17 on foot and the group that needed to cut back with a bus ride. Upon arrival at Islares, we laid down our packs to spend some time in the waves before dinner.

We’re tired. It’s awesome. The work is paying off. We’re making progress. 63 miles in four days. Hearts that are swelling. Faith that is being reinforced. Truths being learned. The character of God being found.

We’re going to keep walking. Buen Camino.
