An almost finished build

Tuesday in Puerto Penasco brought the second day of the build…and an almost finished house. From the moment we arrived on site, hammers and shovels were busy prepping for the first coat of stucco which would go onto the exterior of the home. Sand was shifted, tar paper stapled and chicken wired placed. Soon stucco was on its way onto the walls, while four on the roof glued down fabric. It was truly a team effort, and with the help of our Puerto Penasco friends, the work happened quickly.
Once again, Omar and Aurora’ family joined us on the site, bringing joy, hard work, and tortillas in abundance. Though yesterday the labor lasted until 5pm, today the progress was done by 3pm. The early afternoon was a welcome surprise on a hot and dirty day.

As has been the case since we’ve been in Mexico, the evening held fun on the beach and a delicious dinner prepared by Mrs. Welch. We shared with one another afterward, talking about what it means to live a life that is fully surrendered to God. Cookies and milk marked the close of an early night…two straight days of sun and labor have us eager for bed.

This trip to Puerto Penasco has been a special one. The team of 28 is working so well together, attitudes are good, and the camaraderie of the group brings laughs and light hearts. All of us feel blessed to be a part of a trip like this one, we’ve even seen God move in meaningful ways through the new and old relationships that are in place.

Tomorrow is our last day of work, and we expect that it will be a short one. The final coat of stucco will go on, and then we’ll hand over the keys to what we learned tonight will be a church and Sunday school. We hope to be done by lunch, and will spend our final night in Mexico as tourists might.

Things are going so well, God is answering prayers all the time. We’re surrounded by his beauty, we are refreshed by His goodness, and we are motivated by His call. We’re praying for continued health and safety, and are hoping that the Lord will show us something unexpected tomorrow. Thank you for your continued prayers…they are both powerful and effective.

Goodnight from Puerto Penasco!
