Buenos diás! And what a good and glorious morning it is! This is one of my favorite times of day. The team is still sleeping, and I'm on "The Third Story" - a rooftop patio on top of one of the dorm buildings here on campus, sipping coffee, and taking in the sights, sounds, and smells of this beloved country. The birds are awake and chirping away, I hear some distant traffic, and the landscape is lush and green. It is so wondrously and wonderfully green, which is different from the last couple of years of drought, but back to what I remember fondly about Nicaragua. The splash of color in the trees from ripening mangoes, the hummingbird feasting on the orange-red blossoms of the butterfly tree a few yards from me, and the plethora of pinks smattering other treetops display the glorious wonders of God's creation. Of course, my hair is an Afro and my skin is softening from the humidity . . . and it's only just after six in the morning, so I'm sure a steamy day awaits.
Our travel day couldn't have gone much better, praise God! I couldn't believe how many students and families were at the airport when we arrived a half-hour in advance. The ladies at the United group check in counter were fabulous. One of them I recognized from helping us over the years - always fun to reconnect for that short time. Our students were courteous and well prepared. We were done with check in by 10:20! That's got to be a record! Security took almost an hour, but we had time to get some food and board on time. In fact, the United staff also took us all in Group 3, which was really nice to be able to board together.
In Houston, we met a team from Atlanta who will be serving in Managua proper in a Christian school. We all pretty much occupied the back half of the plane. We took off a bit late from Houston after an on-time boarding due to weather. They had to "turn the airport around," as our pilot described, due to changing winds from approaching storms. Much of the time was made up in the air, and we arrived only a few minutes later than expected. Customs was probably the smoothest it has ever been, and all of our luggage arrived in good condition!
We met Brinson and the Barons, our ministry partners, on the other side of security. It was great to reconnect and introduce them to the new members of the team. We were also thrilled to step outside with no rain! In fact, it was just the blast of heat and humidity greeting us, even at 9:00 at night. Hannah said something about the "unique" experience of soaking through her clothes upon impact with the Nicaraguan air. Haha!
The students are sleeping in a tad this morning, but we are excited to hit the road in the bus this morning to the ranch to prepare for our VBS. Thank you so much for your prayers! They were indeed felt and realized. Please continue to pray not only for us but for the children we will be meeting and greeting tomorrow. God is good! We are blessed!
