Day 2 - VBS

No doubt that God is present in every part of Ruby Ranch. It is such a special place that touches the heart of everyone who steps onto the property.

Today, we woke up ate breakfast and then hopped into Land Cruisers to drive to the Ranch (we couldn’t take the bus due the rain incident and building the road, so for guarantee we would make it we took cars). From the moment we woke up, we hit the ground running. We arrived at the Ranch 30 minutes before the kids arrived. We prepared our crafts, games and Bible story. After preparation, it is such a special moment to open up the gates as the kids flood in. They are in their nicest clothes and their smiles can instantly make your day. As they rotated from station to station, the team was continually blessed by the smiles, giggles, hugs and exchanges, for some in “Spanglish”. As a team, we all took on our roles to make sure we served all the sweet faces we encountered. I wish I could remember every detail and encounter because every kid touches my heart. It is so fun to see which team members form connections with the Ruby Ranch kids. Many team members already have their “favorites”.

Between stations and during free time, there was time spent on the brinca brinca (trampoline), soccer games, chasing, tag and laughter, but most importantly, we got to teach about God and encounter His Holy Spirit engulfing every part of Ruby Ranch.

Many of the new members were heartbroken during lunch. The kids, ranging from 3-12 do not eat their whole lunch. After all that play and sweat, you know they are very hungry. But, none of the kids finish their meal. They take their leftovers to share with their families. That sacrifice is so selfless and that simple act inspires me to be that caring.

After the kids left, Brinson, Todd, Jamie and Landon shared their vision for Ruby Ranch. I’m blown away by their commitment and trust in God. Their plan includes the best getaway for Managuan kids and a place where God can truly be present. They want cabins, a pool, a splash center, an Amphitheatre, horseback riding trails and room for whatever activity a kid can think of. Hearing about Ruby Ranch and all that will be built for the kids, energized us for the work project. We sweat like crazy, but all that hard work was such a blessing to help Ruby Ranch grow. And personally, I think it’s kind of fun.

The rest of the night included showers, pasta dinner, and team bonding in the cabanas and lots of rest so that we can go back and serve at Ruby Ranch again tomorrow.
