Dia Dos...

Hola from the Dominican!! Today we woke up at 10:30 in our temperpedic beds. We then picked up our iPhones and checked Instagram and then ordered room service. It was delicious. We then made our way to the infinity pool looking over the ocean. Great view I might add! Talk about doing hard things!! And then, our $5 Walmart alarms went off and we woke up ready to start our day serving!
Our day started at 7:30 with some amazing pancakes and French toast. We then got an assembly line together and packaged food to deliver to the Honduras Village. We then put the bags in the bus and piled in to head to the village. The Honduras Village seemed to be vacant when we arrived but slowly but surely the kids and families started to appear. We took pictures of them and gave them some polaroid photos which they deeply enjoyed and each wanted their own picture (it got a bit overwhelming). We also got to practice our Spanish skills which are little rusty after the school year. Then, we distributed and prayed with families who were receiving our food bags. After, we went out to play with the little kids. We were missing a ball but that didn’t matter to them. We played modified soccer with an empty milk jug and few empty soda bottles. Nobody would’ve known the difference with how happy the kids were. We continued playing soccer and more kids kept coming. We then switched to tag where they ganged up on us to win and ended with a mix of rugby/ football. Pretty interesting seeing 10 kids attempt to take down Jeff. Then, it was time to head back to Score. The kids were sad that we left but we were leaving with big smiles and full hearts from a great start to our week of service!!

On our ride to play the volleyball team we got lots of smiles and kisses blown our way from the people on the streets. It was awesome to see everyone outside on their porches and playing together. We approached the hot and sweaty complex ready to kick butt. As soon as we walked in, we saw every girl at least over 6 foot. Talk about intimidating. There were tall men volleyball and women players all around. Then the wave of heat smacked us, drenching every one of us. We could serve another village with the amount of buckets we would fill of our sweat/water! We got our gear on and started to warm up and visualize our main goal while we play. Have fun, serve the lord, and play tough. We got on the court, started to play and noticed that our nerves started to take over. The first two sets were definitely a struggle to warm up to; however, after bringing them to 4 sets, we finally got going. Everyone was having a blast while also being able to compete. We only had a couple heat waves here and there but the amount of fun took over. After 4 sets of amazing volleyball, we circled up and Emma W was bold enough to share her testimony in front of all the girls. We then shared the gospel and gave up old Valor jerseys and shirts to each girl. The smiles on everyone’s face made our days. We loaded up the bus after saying goodbye and boy you do not want to smell that bus. On our way back we made some more local friends… We were then welcomed with 11, yes 11, handmade pizzas from Hector (110 slices). Anna told everyone not to leave one slice on the table, everything needed to be eaten. So we did as told and devoured all 11, not 1 slice left. We took some naps after and attempted to let our food set. Ate some more ice cream, Riley jumped in the pool as usual, and then we prepared devotionals.

Now we are closing and about to debrief our wonderful day. After a long night we are ready to head back to our perfectly made temperpedic beds with chocolate squares and cold towels waiting on our pillows. Goodnight to all! Everyone says I love you mom and dad!!

Love,
Anna, Emma Z, and Riley
