Settling In
Friends and Family,
We're settling into life here in Antigua! The weather is amazing and so are our homestays and teachers. As leaders, we can already see improvement in their ability to speak and understand Spanish.
Yesterday, after classes, we attended the school's orientation and then treated the students to ice cream and a walk through Parque Central (Central Park). Then, back to our houses for homework and a good night's sleep. Constantly throughout Antigua, you can hear fireworks exploding, church bells chiming, and roosters crowing. But we were all so tired last night that we hardly noticed any of it.
After personal devotions, a tasty breakfast and great conversation with our host families this morning, we were off again to another day of classes.
Throughout this month, we are reading through the book of 1 John and the Gospel of John as part of our personal devotion times. We invite you to read along with us! Today, we were reminded by 1 John 3 that to remain in Christ is to move from darkness to light - that Jesus Christ transforms every aspect of our lives. This is our prayer for the students throughout the month - that they will be more and more transformed by Jesus!
Check out some more pictures below to see the beautiful sights of Antigua from yesterday.
All the students send their love!

A gorgeous Catholic church in the heart of Central Park.

This sight is the most famous in all of Antigua - El Arco!

We could just see the outline of the volcano appearing through the clouds.

One of the homestays is built around an open courtyard that is full of plants, flowers, and fruit trees (lemons, limes, mangoes, even cherries). Not a bad place to relax after a long day of classes!

Allyson has the right idea.

Jack's face shows exactly how we all felt after six hours of one-on-one Spanish. Someone let that boy take a nap!
